I recently visited the Superbloom Festival at Munich’s iconic Olympiapark, which offered a perfect example of how modern AV technology is revolutionising stadium-based events. This venue, originally built for the 1972 Olympics, has undergone significant technological upgrades that showcase the potential of integrated lighting systems.
The festival featured major artists including Post Malone, Nelly Furtado, Shawn Mendes, and Tiësto, each requiring unique lighting approaches.
At Superbloom 2025, the stadium’s architectural lighting was seamlessly integrated into the festival’s overall visual design. The ability to incorporate the venue’s permanent lighting infrastructure into the artistic vision of each performance represents a significant advancement in event production capabilities, and creates several advantages. It expands the canvas available to lighting designers, allowing them to use the entire stadium structure as part of their visual palette. At the same time, it creates a more immersive experience for audiences, who feel surrounded by the performance rather than simply observing it from a distance.

In its IOTA market surveys, AVIXA divides the pro AV market into 12 vertical sectors: venues and events is the third largest of these, generating over $42 billion for the industry annually, and predicted to grow at 4.6% per year for the rest of the decade.
There seems to be no limit to audiences’ appetites – and willingness to pay – for tech-driven spectacle. One notable example was Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour, which made headlines not just for its scope and scale, but for its economic impact on many of the cities and countries that it visited.
And ISE is where events professionals come to find the ingredients for those amazing experiences. Thanks to the efforts of our amazing Sales team, our Lighting and Staging Zone is now firmly established as one of the most vibrant areas of the show. ISE 2025 saw us pivot from the Live Events Summit in the CC conference centre above the halls to the Live Events Stage on the show floor, which was very well received. Programmed by TPi magazine, the stage hosted live events practitioners from across the industry who discussed the innovations they introduced, and the challenges they overcame, putting on big-name live shows.
ISE’s location in Barcelona puts us in close proximity to major live events. One of the speakers on the Live Events Stage was Marta Pallarès from Primavera Sound Festival – one of the largest music festivals in Europe and an event which, like ISE, has enjoyed steady growth over after many years. Another major Barcelona event is Sónar, a music, creativity and technology festival that has spread beyond its flagship location to cities around the world. Events like these, including ISE itself, feed into Catalonia’s ambition to become a global hub for the audiovisual industry.
There are also strong synergies between live events and broadcast AV – another ISE growth area – as event organisers increasingly use streamed content to enrich the fan experience and grow their audience.
