AV in European homes

Having just come back from CEDIA Expo in Denver, my mind has naturally turned to how audiovisual (AV) technology is transforming the way we live.

AV solutions are no longer just a luxury for tech enthusiasts; they’ve become a central feature of modern living spaces, shaping lifestyle trends and redefining comfort. From immersive home cinemas that replicate the silver-screen experience to smart, multi-room audio systems that synchronise your favourite playlists throughout the house, AV tech is seamlessly blending entertainment, convenience, and functionality like never before.

What’s driving this growth?

The Rise of Immersion

Europe is witnessing a surge in immersive technologies. Dolby Atmos-equipped home theatres, ultra-HD displays, and 3D soundscapes are revolutionising movie nights. Meanwhile, multi-room audio setups enable effortless transitions from morning podcasts in the kitchen to relaxing melodies in the bedroom.

The Ability to Customise

Homeowners are increasingly seeking AV solutions tailored to their unique needs. Whether it’s controlling lighting, sound, and visuals with a single touch or crafting dedicated entertainment zones, customisation is key. People want AV setups that align with their individual lifestyles and adapt to their routines.

Whole-Home Integration

Voice-controlled assistants, energy-efficient home automation, and security-enhanced systems are connecting every corner of the house. Smart-home systems now enable seamless control of lighting, climate, security, audiovisual equipment, and more through intuitive interfaces and voice commands.

Lifestyle Evolution

AV tech’s rise mirrors a broader lifestyle shift. Post-pandemic, homes have become more than just living spaces: they’re now offices, gyms, cinemas, and social hubs. High-quality AV systems help bridge this multifunctional demand, offering convenience and sophistication under one roof.

Greater Focus on Wellness and Inclusivity

There’s an increasing interest in systems that promote health, comfort, and wellness in residential spaces. Sensors and purifiers manage air and water quality, automatic HVAC systems maintain ideal temperatures and humidity levels, and wellness rooms spaces feature lighting, sound, and atmospheric controls to encourage relaxation and mindfulness.

Ageing in place is also a growing focus – systems that provide diagnostics and assistance remotely, reducing the need for in-person visits and extending the time older people can remain in their own homes.

Co-owned by CEDIA, the association for smart home professionals, Integrated Systems Europe (ISE) is a key event for the smart home industry. Showcasing innovations like home automation, IoT devices, and energy-efficient solutions, it fosters networking among manufacturers, integrators, and designers, while offering education on codes of practice, trends like AI and sustainability, and business strategies for integrators. ISE expands market opportunities by connecting businesses with a global audience, and encourages adoption of smart, secure, and eco-friendly home technologies.
